I’m not sure if I just really love hot chocolate that much or if it is just the idea that it goes right along well with the holiday season and cold weather. But, either way, when the weather strikes cold, I always have to keep a box of hot chocolate on hand. No doubt. No exceptions.
Actually, this past weekend, my husband and I drank a glass while we watched a movie and I added some adorable marshmallows, homemade whipped cream, and a drizzle of our Ghiradelli chocolate sauce.
But, that is really just an improved version of the typical way hot chocolate is made…
I know, I am so basic.
But, the good news is that there is much more you can do with that simple glass of hot chocolate. With a few simple tricks, you can take this favorite winter drink to the next level.
Here are a few tricks for transforming that traditional glass of warmed up and melted chocolate:
- Add a scoop of ice cream. I actually used to have a college professor who did this with her coffee, so doing this to hot chocolate comes as no surprise to me. The cool creaminess of the ice cream adds a powerful flavor while cooling your hot chocolate.
- Try a bit of orange zest. Personally, this one isn’t for me – I am not the orange and chocolate type of girl. But, I know plenty of people who are. And, most people say that citrus addition is such a delight. It at least gives it a new flavor profile.
- Stir in a scoop of peanut butter. This is a trick my husband would go nuts for – anything peanut butter is his love language. Add a scoop of peanut butter to your hot chocolate for a full and nutty addition to your drink.
